How to Stop Spotify from Opening on Startup

The makers of the Spotify program did not design the application with the intention of upsetting their users. On the contrary, many people will find it helpful to have the program open and ready for use without any interaction on their part. But, since you want to modify your computer’s startup process to prevent Spotify from launching with the rest of your startup programs, you have found this practice to be a nuisance. To begin the process of stopping Spotify from opening when your computer starts up, click the Start button at the bottom-left corner of your screen. Type msconfig into the search field at the bottom of the menu, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.

A new window will open, labeled System Configuration. Click the Startup tab at the top of the System Configuration window. Scroll through the list of programs on this tab until you locate the Spotify option. Click the box to the left of Spotify to remove the check mark. Note that you can also use this opportunity to prevent other programs from launching when your computer starts up, but take caution in removing programs that you do not recognize or are unsure of. You can create problems on your computer if you inadvertently disable programs or applications that your computer needs to run properly.

Click the Apply button at the bottom of the window, then click the OK button. Windows will then display a pop-up window telling you that you should restart your computer for the new changes to take effect, but you do not need to restart your computer unless you want to. The next time your computer is restarted, the Spotify application will not be opening automatically. Note, however, that if you need to reinstall the program at any point, the default installation settings will have Spotify automatically starting at launch again.
